Roger,

I did loosen the interconnection screws so that the carbs were operating 
independently.  When I first got the car running, I noticedthat the 
carburators were way out of synch.  If you turn up the throttle 1.5 turns 
on the carb. with the good over-run valve the idle goes up to 3000 rpms.

The timing is probably a little off too, since I couldn't get the car to 
idle at the correct speed to set it.  What is the correct orientation for 
the over-run valves?  There are two conflicting diagrams in the Haynes SU 
manual.  On page 48, they show it with the spring pointing away from the 
engine on the bottom of the butterfly. (This is how mine is currently 
oriented.  With the spring rubbing against the carb. body)  Then there is a 
diagram on page 45 which shows the over-run valve spring on the top of 
the butterfly, pointed into the intake manifold.
