Hullo,

One question, one humerous comment and one linguistic observation:

QUESTION...
I had the opportunity :-( to replace the rear handbrake cable on my mini
the other day. Removing the old one went fine, helped by the fact it was
in two pieces. Fitting the new one was not so easy as the bracket on the
end of the cable that the cotter pin goes through wouldn't fit through the
hole in the subframe on one side, though it was fine on the other side.

After a certain amount of pushing, poking, wiggling etc I decided that the
bracket must be too big. To convince myself of this I tried the old broken
cable and that wouldn't fit either. So what's going wrong?

1. something is seriously amis with my subframe/suspension?

2. one end of the cable has a smaller bracket and by chance I didn't
discover this?

or

3. nothing - this happens all the time!

I eventually adopted the old sol-ution :-) of getting the biggest hammer
I could find and hitting the bracket till it changed it's mind and decided
to fit.

COMMENT...
I was parked in Edinburgh when an American family walked past, one of the
two small children stoped to stare at the Mini before saying

"Oh my God, Dad, that car's teeny!"

OBSERVATION...
Someone suggested that faffing should make a return to the SOL language. For
some of us over here faffing is still a word in everyday use.

Daniel.
