Last week I received an interesting letter
forwarded from my older brother (who used to be
half-owner in our Riley, a '48 RMA 1 1/2 litre
Saloon). The letter was a solicitation for donations
required to restore a ~90 yr. old Episcopal Church
located in Chico Calif, but featured an odd twist in
that one church member was offering up his 1950 Riley
2 1/2 litre Drophead as a raffle prize to generate
funds.
Unfortunately, this man's economic & marketing
skills are somewhat inferior to his generosity, as he is
trying to sell 25 tickets at FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS APIECE !
If the plan works as intended it seems a good
deal; the church gets restored, 24 people get a tax
break, and one lucky person gets a cherry Riley
Drophead (green/tan, picture enclosed, gorgeous !), but
I think he'd be a bit more successful if he sold 50
tickets at $2500 or 100 tickets at $1250. Oh well ...
cheers-
daren
p.s. If anyone wants the address, e-mail me direct ;-)
