Tom,
The TVR for '74 should be a 2500M. The Vixens were an earlier series
with a few transition models in early '73. The drivetrain is basically TR6.
These cars beg to be driven hard as the handling is superb. The suspension ther
efore generally takes a beating. It has Lucas electrics ... enough said there.
The frame is tubular steel and should be inspected carefully for corrosion. At
that price, it's likely that the body was removed from the car and the frame cl
eaned and recoated. These cars had a tendancy to overheat,(in my experience at
any time the outside temp reached 60)so you'll want to run it a bit under load.
The gas tank is made of extra thick tin foil, so expect some gas fumes. Most TV
R's have undergone some upgrading, so don't be put off by suspension, carb, or
electrics changes. The price is not unreasonable depending on the condition.
Fiberglass is expensive to paint, and the TVR body movement causes a lot of
"spiders", so a good paint condition is worth a few extra dollars. Ray
