If the grinding occurs when in gear (or neutral), and not when
going into gear, it's more likely to be the throw-out bearing
than the tranny. This is particularly likely after a clutch
replacement. Replacing the TO bearing would be considerably
cheaper than rebuilding the tranny.
I've got a TO bearing on a parts car that you can have. On the
other hand, once you've pulled the interior of the car to get
the tranny out enough to get the clutch removed, you might not
want to put a TO bearing with 60K miles already on it back in.
