Greasings and Lubrications, All...

Every old car I've ever had wanted to 'run-on' at one time or another.
I remember as a teenager, my parents inflicted me with a Chevrolet
Vega. The car looked ok (hatchback, non-impact bumpers) and was
fun to drive. But every time you shut it off, it went:

        ****CHUCKA-CHUCKA-BLAP-CHUCKA-WHEEEZE-CHUCKA-RATTLE-BURP-CHUCKA....

for a period of time equal to the Dark Ages, and then...

        CHUCKA-CHUCKA.....FFFFFFFFWWWWWWWWHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEZZZZZ...BELCH!!

This would generally occur as I arrived at the designated social
scene with a young lady I had invested a thousand hours of carefully
orchestrated P.R. into...everyone would turn and stare...and my
first date with yet another was over before it began. (Having a
upper body like Barney Fife and glasses heavy as headlamps off an
old Bently...I'd started out with two strikes against me)

So...it didn't take me long to figure out a plan of action.
Apon arrival at social scene, shift into 4th, hold down the brake,
turn off the key, and let out the clutch at a rate the car was
comfortable with. Shut it down smooth as silk.

And, after many more thousand hours of carefull P.R. met and wooed
(snookered?) Sweet Wife Kathy. And got rid of that stupid Vega.

LBC Content: Looking foward to using that same clutch dump trick
(if needed) with Daisy, the Yellow Car. Same year model as the
        Vega, 1970, BTW.

Riding down the road with spiffy car, thick sweater and contact lenses.
Musing about what might have been. Hmmm...that old Vega might have
        done me a favor.
