Try this simple test. Push your car back and forth 5 or so feet
to relax the suspension (with the car empty). Then take a look at how
your car sits. If it is level, and you think the back sits too low, then
you probably just have a weak rear spring. If the car isn't level and you
have replaced the rear with a known good spring, than your problem is in
the front suspension. I don't think you can make the Spitfire sit level
with one person in it w/o biased springs (maybe sit on the transmission
tunnel...)
I think a lot of spitfire rear springs get replaced to level the
rear, only to find it makes no difference. Remember the curves of the body
along with the positive camber of the front suspension can really trick your
eyes and make the back look bad.
