Mike Machaffee (another SOLer in town) popped round on Friday afternoon
to help me with my turn signals and lights etc. which haven't been functioning.
Found the flasher unit which we determined was the culprit, and dwitched it
for a used flasher unit I got from hemmings. Switched on the turn signal...
and it BUZZED!! Obviously I had been sent a buzzer, not a flasher! A quick
trip to the NAPA got me an electronic flasher unit ($17 ouch)...and once
installed the right hand signals worked. However, when I pushed the
brake pedals....the right turn also lit up! Mike poked a little and determined
that the PO had done a little wire swapping near the rear cluster....so we
swapped 'em back. Working brake lights and right hand turn signals.
Mike had to go...but I continued and got the left turn signals working again
(bad grounds), and also got the parking lights back to rights.
I'm going to go around and dissemble all of the light cluster/grounds and
clean and lube them. All I need are the two bulbs for the rear side marker
lights both of which are out. WOW....fully working electrics...after the scares
I've given myself what with the coil/brake pressure censor problem etc etc.
I thought I had a real humdinger of an electrical problem. It seems the
kid who had it before just decided to do a little DIY on easy to reach wires!!
I know this is a bad thing to say...but soon theres not going to be much left
to fix...then I suppose I can get on with some preventative stuff and make
something to fix!!
Marcus.
