I used to rotate the engine in my Midget with a socket on the alternator
pulley and a hand pulling on the belt -- this results in some minor
dings to the radiator (it's a Midget - there isn't much room) and some major
scrapes to your hand and arm.
The easy way to do it is to put the car in gear, jack up a rear wheel, remove
parking brake ---- now all you need to do is have someone turn the wheel while
you watch the valves go up and down. No more scraped up arms, etc. Ideally
this requires an extra person but it could be done alone.
