There is one other thing to check, which could very well be your
issue. The busings which hold the throttle shaft are made of a soft
metal (as I remember they are bronze) and DO WEAR OUT. As they wear
they pull in air around the shafts. A few sprits of carb cleaner
should confirm this if the motor begins to idle properly. When they
are worn you can tune the carbs worth a damn.
By the way, the remedy is one of two options. Press in new bushings,
line bore, and ream, or, option two, get a set of rebuilts! Again, you
can rebuild yourself, if you have the time. Beck-Arnley or Napa carry
a lot of the parts!
