re shooting brake: I wonder about the comment about them being expensive- but can vouch for other comments, eg. station wagon is definitely "estate" in British... I've heard older folks refer to 1950s Morris Minor "estates" with large wooden panels as part of the side rear trim as "shooting brakes"- sort of like the Americanism "a woody". Otherwise, the explanation I was given for "shooting brake" fits: the sort of car for going out on a shooting expedition. ...Dave Agnew |
