To all that responded concerning my search for Glass Wax (sorry for
the length of this post)...
I took the information that it was made by Gold Seal in Bismark ND
(thank you Mike), and called long distance information. No Gold Seal
company, but they did list a Gold Label company... What the heck, I
gave them a call.
Nice older sounding lady answered, and she knew what I was talking
about, but she wasn't the right company. She looked it up in the phone
book, while talking about 'ol Bob (or whatever his name was) that
started the company, but no luck, no Gold Seal company... She said
she was sorry, and I thanked her for her help... Gee, I really LIKE
small towns....
Then, since several of you sent me messages saying that you saw it
recently at your local hardware store, I started calling around...
Found it on the first call... Little old fashioned "got a couple of
everything" type of hardware store; i,e, not a chain... Went over
after work and sure enough, they had it. I bought two cans...
And upon reading the can, a little of the mystery was solved. The can
(it still has the Gold Seal logo on the front) says to send questions
and comments to:
Reckitt & Coleman
Household Products, Dist.
A Division of
Reckitt & Colman, Inc.
Wayne, NJ 07474-0945
I take this to mean that the little Gold Seal company in North Dakota
was bought out/moved to the big company in New Jersey, and
distribution was messed up for a while...
By the way, I had checked this store about six months ago, while
looking for some hardware, but they "haven't seen it for a long time,
but I remember the stuff..." (I have been checking every hardware
store that I went into for several years for the stuff).
As for those that asked/commented about how good/bad the stuff is...
Glass Wax is like a lot of things, you either like it, or hate it. I
like it. It cleans the inside and outside of windows better than
anything I have tried. My wife says it causes lines and "rainbows" on
the outside of the windshield, I find that RainX, etc. do the same
thing, but much worse. As for stopping fog on the inside, I don't
know - didn't live in a climate with that problem before. But I don't
think it can hurt, and RainX, etc. just streak and smear on the inside
when I have used them.
So for those who want to find Glass Wax, call around to your local
hardware stores, it might be back; otherwise, the address is listed
above.
Brit. car content: I use it on my LBC... :-)
