Brad,
I read your posting concerning your vapor locking Alpine.
1. It would be a good idea to block/remove the coolant lines to the
intake manifold. Yes these are there to heat the carburettor, on
colder days when the carb doesn't really heat up to operating temp.
Cold carb means less atomization of fuel and poorer combustion.
But I can see how your car would vapor lock on hot midwestern days.
2. If your car has metal fuel lines to the carb, thermally isolate these
from the engine heat by splitting a rubber fuel hose (5/16) down the side
with a razor, and covering the metal line.
3. Do make a heat shield. This will lessen the flow of heat from the
exhaust manifold up to the aluminum carb. Use a metal plate on the
exhaust side, and a thermal insulator on the carb side. Make it the
full width of the carburettor and a little more. Try to block heat
flow to the aluminum? intake manifold by extending the heat shield
almost to the head.
4. During winter your car will probably run better if some of these
fixes are removed.
I hope this helps, get back to me.
