As a relative newcomer to the list I thought I would introduce myself
and ask a couple of questions.
At present I own an MG Midget (1970), an Alfa Romeo GTV6, a Citroen AX GT and
an off road race Mini ( and a Citroen 2CV that I'd rather not talk about).
Its the MG that I would like some advice on. I used the car on a regular
basis for 5 years, but it has now been stored for 3 or 4 years. For the
first couple of years I started it regularly and kept it moving.
Unfortunately for the last couple of years it has not been touched. The
time has come to get it going again. I am just finishing ( I hope)
sorting out the brakes. The next stage must be starting the engine.
I turned it over on the starter motor about six months ago. It only turned
over very slowly ( even when with a new GTV6 battery) and didn't start.
The engine was quite young (in miles) having been a recon unit from BL (as it
was then) the year before I bought it. I took no specific action before
taking it off the road.
Does anybody have any recommendations as to what I should do?
Should I take the head off and have a look before going any further ?
Has anybody has similar experiences ?
Any guesses what state the engine in likely to be in ?
Any comments at all?
Thanks
James.
PS Yes I know how stupid I've been letting it stand for so long. :(
