In my search for a reconditioned gearbox for my '66 Vitesse, I
turned to U.K. suppliers. Thanks to a recommendation from Andy
Mace I phoned up John Kipping's Triumph Spares, a Coventry-based
company that specializes in Herald, Vitesse, Spitire and GT6.
To conserve network bandwidth and make a long story short, I
ordered a custom gearbox, the later GT6-type all-synchro used in
the later models but with the earlier output flange. It arrived
in just over a week, a completely professional job, for the
astounding price of 220 pounds (about $330) including shipping!
I've never seen even a stock recon GT6 gearbox domestically
for less than $600, _excluding_ freight.
I cannot recommend too strongly that if you have one of these
vehicles that you consider dealing with this company. This is
perhaps the most satisfactory experience I have ever had with
any supplier on either side of the Atlantic.
