I've wondered all the same things myself (glad it's not just me),
& come to the realization that This isn't the same Kansas that we
left, Toto. Government, environment, population, demographics,
attitudes are all different now. Back then, the cars we all write
about stood out among their contemporaries in terms of styling,
balance, feel ... you know ... all that enthusiast stuff. That's
not the case today - the difference between a pure "sports car" (if
there is such a thing anymore) & a decent family sedan is not all that
great, either in performance or styling. "Homogenous" is a good word to
describe it. There aren't any new cars that really light a fire under
me now. I'd just as soon buy a V-10 Dodge Ram & keep that for 20 years.
Maybe if the 1996 XJS looks as good as the drawings & I win a lottery ...
Regards,
Patrick
