Rod,
My flaring tool isn't quite up to stainless ether. I had my flares made up for
me at my local Hydrolics shop. They have lots of experience and lots of
practice. I wasn't told about availability of different types of stainless, but
I suspect the type they used has been found to work and hold up well in adverse
environment hydrolic applications. The hard part for me was coming up with the
correct new fittings for 50s & early 60s UK systems. Since the series II Land
Rover used that style, I went to Rovers North and purchased my fittings from
them. My system has two sizes of lines. The lines between the resavoir and
master cylinders are larger in diameter. So the tubing is available in different
diameters. My local shop had stainless available in longer lengths than the
conventional brake tubing. Had I gone with the traditional line I would have
needed to add a junction between the master brake cylinder and the distribution
block and another on the tube going back to the rear brakes.
Hope that answers you questions. Ring or call on your local hydrolics shop and
find out what they have available.
They sure polish up nice & shiney with a minimum of work.
Take care.
