I'm going to have to investigate the various SOL souvenirs available
before too long, but I have a suggestion about a new way of using the
logo which I think reflects the computer-based operation of the group.
(And by the way, I'm trying to come to grips with the irony of a group
devoted to automobiles noted for their electrical failings and retro
appeal driving the information superhighway. It would be more appropriate
if we were all using Lucas computers. LBC = little British Computers?)
Anyway, back to my suggestion. And as a new member of this mailing list,
pardon me if it's been suggested before. I believe it was mentioned that
the SOL logo was computer-generated. Is it possible, then, to save it as
a GIF or TIFF file which we list members can then download to create
startup screens, etc (for us Mac owners) which would allow us to gaze
enthusiastically at that heraldic badge of honour every time we pulled
the choke, primed the carbs and fired up the ol' PC.
I'm enjoying the discussion on the list, as I'm currently 3,000 miles
from my '64 MGB (sigh!!), which is snugly secured in a garage in Calgary,
Alberta while I enjoy a year in Boston. I'm also currently borrowing
bandwidth from a friend to allow me access to the list, something I hope
to change soon. Upon my return to Calgary I'll begin my search for LBC
#2, a Land Rover; great for winter and for parts hauling.
One tech question while I'm here. My "B" has the original crash-first
tranny, which is a little unsuitable for the long distances on the open
prairies of Alberta. I'd love to put an overdrive unit in, but
discussions to date have provided me with no clear answer as to whether
it's possible. Some say no problem, it'll fit, while others say "no way"
for a variety of reasons, including that the floorpan in the driving
compartment will require alteration to allow the unit to fit. What's the
concensus here?
Until later.
