It's trivia time! I need some help.
Over the weekend my Lady presented me with a gift she bought at an
antique sale. It consists of two matching ceramic pieces, one a decanter,
the other an ash tray, both cream / off-white with numerous small
decal-like auto logos, most of them British (like MG in an octagon).
The decanter is about 8" tall, the ashtray about 4" x 8". The central design
on each piece is a tire supporting a set of 6-8 flags used in auto racing.
Neither the decanter (perhaps a pint - having a matching ceramic stopper
with cork sealing surface) nor ashtray bear any writing or commercial
markings other than the auto logos . There is no evidence of what kind
of liquid the decanter might have held, not even a residual odor.
Neither piece is dated.
Your task, trivia buffs, is to identify the pieces, their age (and value?).
For openers, I'd say they're much too fancy for Avon cologne.
Anyone ever seen something like this?
