regarding radios in + ground cars:
Another way to isolate the antenna (other than the suggested
method of rubber washers) is to cut the ground braid in the
coaxial cable so that there's about a half inch separation,
then connect the two halves of the braid with a capacitor.
One of the EE types on the list might suggest a size. I used
this technique (isolate the radio chassis and antenna from
the car ground) on my TR-3. An EE friend suggested the
capacitor trick and supplied the capacitor, so I don't
know the value that I used.
