    I haven't seen much on this issue, but, I had a IH Scout with a
 problem like this.  It turned out to be a loose capacitor in the 
 distributor that made intermittent connection based on the vibration
 frequency of the engine.  It drove me nuts for a few days!!  If
 I had had a scope on the ignition I would have seen the waveform
 ringing change right away.  If this is all out to lunch I apologize.
