It is not uncommon for a GT6 head to crack from one water
jacket opening to another waterjacket opening without involving
any of the oil passages or combustion chambers. Cracks of that
nature can usually be ignored( call them stress release). Most 
machine shops feel they must point out ALL cracks important or not.
Sometimes they don't give a clear picture of which are easy to 
fix which are very hard and which probably don't much matter.
You might ask them for more detail.

If the $600.00 VB head is new it probably is bare. You may end 
up with a fair amount more money in it by the time you get it 
on the car.
