Ok, fellow SOLers, I've looked over all the comments from others
on commerical participation, and, picking up on the idea I put
out a few days ago, I wrote up the following "invitation" of
sorts. Let me know what you think, ok?

We, the Scions of Lucas (SOLers) encourage those involved in
commercial enterprises to take part in the ongoing, daily discussions
of our beloved Little British Cars (LBCs). However, a few basic
ground rules apply:
1. No advertisement of any kind whatsoever is to be placed on the
discussion list. This injunction includes electronic flyers,
daily specials, and catalogs, price lists, and so forth. (At
present, there is discussion of setting up a special FTP site for
such billings, and if such comes about, we will notify you
immediately.)
2. No orders for parts are to be taken over the discussion list.
This injunction applies, of course, to both regular SOLers and
commercial SOLers.
3. No mention of the name of the commerical enterprise is to be
made over the discussion list unless specifically requested by
someone else.
4. No surveys whose purpose includes commerical gain are to be
taken over the discussion list.
In addition, SOLers are a free-wheeling group with a very good
sense of humor. We believe strongly in the freedom of expression.
>From time to time, this leads to comments about the quality or
lack thereof of LBC components from particular suppliers. If
hearing such is going to lead to "flame wars" (or worse), we
would just as soon that supplier in question do not take part in
the discussion list. However, we feel that commerical enterprises
would likely benefit from hearing just what their customers feel
about their products.
Again, we SOLers look forward to your participation in our
discussions of LBCs. We feel that your expertise may well add a
dimension to the discussions from which all would benefit
greatly.

What do you think? I figure that we'd probably have to do
something about getting such to folks in the business who are not
currently taking part, hence via Snail Mail. That would mean
adding some sort of instructions about where the list is, how to
join, etc. They'd probably want to know how many people are on
the list (I figure I don't know, either); after all, what enterprise
would go thru the effort of getting internet access if the list
comprised a measly five people?
Here's an idea that just came to me in passing: If it costs some
to buy a disk that would be used for advertising, then it only
makes sense that those doing the advertising should pay for the
disk. Just pulling a figure out of the hat, say that each
"contributor" is addessed a one-time charge of $40 or so. In
addition, to keep things from getting too cluttered,
"contributors" would also be responsible for -removing- their
old, out-of-date material.
Shiverin' in Denton ... at least the B's heater works well!
