I have had the asme problme on my 1500 Midget everytime I have pulled the
head. Removing all head studs, manifolds etc, and then trying to remove the
head using various methods all failed. The I remembered something I read a
couple
of years ago.
Bring cylinders 1 & 4 to the bottom of their stroke, remove the spark plugs and
insert rope into the cylinder (I used clothes line rope - the cotton covered
stuff),
and basically fill the cylinder with the rope. Now gently try to rotate the
engine,
by either putting it in gear and rocking the car, or using a socket on
the crankshaft pulley. This has worked for me EVERY time now.
