OFFICE MEMO Lanchester's Formula Date:11/11/93
Is this the same Dr. Frederick Lanchester of the Lanchester car? If so,
perhaps his formula only applies to pre-WW1 engines with babbit bearings?
Other tidbits:
One of the advertised features of the Kissel car in the 1920's was splash
lubrication of the crank.
When selling a car with worn out babbit bearings, one trick I've heard of was
to put sawdust or oatmeal in the sump, which would quiet the knocking bearings
for a short while.
