Lucky man. Call Ken Gillanders and ask him - if he won't do it, he'll
know the right person to send you to.

Name: Ken Gillanders
Company: British Frame and Engine
Address: 4831 Ryland Avenue
             Temple City, CA 91780
Phone: (818) 443-0939 work

He'll point you at the right place for your engine work, too, or will
likely be happy to do the work for you.

Let's see, you wanted ideas for hotrodding your GT6. I just sent mail
about how to prepare the crankshaft. Ken will have lots of ideas for
you. You would probably do well to order a copy of hte TriumphTune
manual, which will provide more options. Call or fax them your VISA
number and they'll ship you a copy:

Name: Triumph Tune
Address: 22-28 Manor Road
             Richmond, Surrey
             England TW9 1YB
Phone: (+44 81) 948 6668
             (+44 81) 940 9268 FAX

For a tractable street car, I'd recommend something along these lines:
Get a header (probably from TriumphTune) and low-restriction exhaust (a
Monza, maybe, or some 2" pipe and a Supertrapp) and some decent air
filters like K&N or ITG. That should gain you something like 10-15 bhp.
If you want to skirt the smog laws slightly, swap on a pair of SU HS6
carbs and hope that the inspector won't notice that you have increased
the size of your carburetters - another 10 bhp. Then shave .040 off
the head, port match the head, polish the combustion chamber. That will
put you up to about 10.25:1 compression ratio with lots better
breathing, and you should still get past smog. Put in an S-2 cam from
Ted Schumacher (along with uprated valve springs) for another, oh,
25-30 bhp. Doing the cam might make passing smog iffy, but there are
ways around that (running a high percentage alcohol mix, for starters).

Name: TSI Automotive
Company: Ted Schumacher
Address: 404 Basinger Road
             Pandora, OH 45877
Phone: (800) 543-6648
             (419) 384-3022
             (419) 384-3272 FAX

Of course, you'd like to move on to Webers, but you'll never pass the
visual inspection with them.

If you're going to work on the block, you'll probably want to get some
work done on the thrust washers. See Tech Talk v3, or ask Ken G. or mjb
for details. There are lots of problems with the six block (mostly
stemming from the fact that this engine was originally the Vanguard 8's
engine with 803cc displacement) but I don't expect that they'll show up
in a street application. Ken is one of the world's leading experts on
Triumph engines - go and have a chat with him and figure out between
the two of you just what it is that you want to accomplish.

I've got a GT6 engine hanging on one of the generic orange engine
stands right now (not from Harbor Freight, made by Alltrade, though).
The engine and head weigh in around 600lb, as I recall, so I bought a
1000lb capacity unit.
