I always thought that the crank splashing the oil was BAD JUJU!!! My
impression of how cylinders got lubricated was that the oil passages
in the crank brought oil to the bottom-end journal, and thence up the
oil passage in the rod to the gudgeon pin, whence it squirted out to
drip down the cylinder walls. (Do I get a prize for using "thence"
and "whence" in the same sentence?)
