Jim,
The Fergison tractor engine that became the TR four cylinder engine already has
a very solid bottom end. The block extends well below the crank and the main
caps are truely massive, rivaling those of the Land Rover and the old 'Y' block
Ford V8s of the fifties. I saw a BMW 2002 engine at the machine shop. The
block ended at the crank center line. It was much smaller and lighter than the
TR's block, but I bet it would come appart easier.
I believe that the engines that Greg builds up for vintage are running in the
150 HP range. But since we are dealing with vintage racing, some pretense of a
stock appearing engine must be given. The engine was advertized from the
factory at 105 Hp at 4750 RPM for the 1991 cc, 9.0:1 engine.
