My '64 TR4 has ZS carbs. My understanding is that for some years, they
came both ways (SU or ZS) from the factory. My dad's '65 TR4A has ZS
carbs as well.
Why SUs over ZSs? The ZSs (pre 1970 anyway) seem to perform quite well
when in tune. I have had problems with ZSs on emission controlled cars
though, and finally gave up and installed an early ZS I had laying
around on my '75 spit.
