Over 4th of July weekend, I was in the Seattle-Tacoma area (got
a chance to sea the vintage racing on Saturday) for a visit with
a friend. While walking in Old Town part of Tacoma we walked past
a business called Mountain Construction Co. As we past the garage
I saw in the back what looked like an old sports car. An Austin
Healy in very poor condition. I wound up talking with the man at the
construction company (they do commercial construction) and he got
the car as part of a house purchase. He bought a house in the
Sea-Tac area and the car was in the basement. He dug it out and
has it stored in his work area of the company. He has been offered
$2,500 for it; he is asking $4,000. It really looks like it needs
lots of work, but if anyone is interested, they can at least pursue
one of these stories that is NOT a dream and that there really is a
car! With my limited knowledge, I would guess that the $2,500 offer
was probably a fair price, and $4,000 is too much, but who knows?
In 1965, I remember when I was shopping for a car I priced the AH
and it was $3,800, and I bought an MGB, because it was $3,300.
BTW, my new 65 MGB experienced a collapsed engine after 30 miles--it had
a defective water pump AND defective water temperature guage. Of
course MG rebuilt the engine under warranty. I owned that MG for
13 months, and put 17,000 miles on it. MG rebuilt the engine 3
(three) times under warranty! Maybe you can understand why I don't
care for MG's; always have had good luck with Triumphs. Oops, into
marque bashing...
