Say, any of you Bay Area SOLers, Healey owners planning
on attending the DMH Birthday BBQ at the Redwood grove
this Saturday ? Perhaps a caravan is in order .... ?
On Redcar lighting woes; Saturday I managed
to shuffle my cars around sufficiently such that when
the time came to attend a co-worker's graduation party,
I was either left with lightless Sprite or 9mpg
Suburban. I opted to quickly troubleshoot the Sprite.
Luckily it wasn't very difficult to locate the
problem. The switch ended up checking out ok, but when
I began inspecting where the front loom, rear loom, and
main loom all meet up above the passeneger's footwell,
it was readily apparent that something was amiss. As
some of you may remember I recently took Redcar in to
have some welding done, and one place that I had had
repaired was the filling of an antennae hole. Right
above where all the wiring looms meet. Apparently my
panelbeater had disconnected the looms to get them away
from the area to be welded, but unfortunately reconnected
them incorrectly. A few minutes with the test light and
schematic had everything in order.
Inspired by this success, I looked into why the
high beam indicator light wasn't indicating. The
schematic showed that this light had a dedicated
ground, but an underdash inspection yielded this was
not the case. After tracing the loom back I located the
ground, and as simple as bolting it down and I had
high beam indicators ! (Actually they were low beam
indicators, since I would later realise the lights were
hooked up inverted). At this point I decided to quit
while I was ahead, and called it a good day.
cheers-
