Funny you should mention this. (Actually, it comes up at least once a year,
right about this time.)
First, a little background for those who are new here: Quite some time ago,
Ed Devinney came up with a very nice design for a logo, which Ed so modestly
described as:
"The SOL id as it stands is a crossed conrod and spanner rampant
on the Union Jack, with the mysterious letters S O L emblazoned
above all in the fearsome shade of BRG. Underneath is
'british-cars@autox.team.net'"
I made some color (paper) copies of it and sent a bunch out to various people
for comment, and the response was generally favorable. But, when it came down
to what people would like done with it, the responses were evenly split
between T-shirts, Jackets, Patches, Flags, Decals, ... Since each of these
would require a separate setup charge, not to mention dealing with separate
companies, the whole thing sorta died. I've occasionally toyed around with
the idea of getting some shirts or decals or something made up...
And then, lo and behold! just this last week I came across a company in
Alabama: Image Graphics, Inc., that will do color imprinting from an
electronic image, for *any* quantity, with NO SETUP CHARGE! And their prices
aren't unreasonable either when you take into account the relatively low
quantities we would want plus the setup fees all other places charge.
Their wares (& fares) include:
Heavyweight T-shirts $12.95 Sweatshirts $17.95
Polo Shirts $17.95 Satin Jackets $39.95
Caps (Baseball, I think) $ 7.50 Mouse Pads $12.95
Ceramic Mugs $ 7.50 Ceramic Steins $12.95
(Mouse pads! Amazing no one suggested those in the past! ;^)
They use a color sublimation printing process, where, for fabric, the color
appears to be "in" the weave of the fabric, not "over" the fabric like with a
standard screen printing process. So I would imagine that the fabric items
would need to be light colored (I was thinking light green or blue), but I
will check for sure. And before anyone asks, I will check into decals as
well. :^)
More details tomorrow.
