My two cents
Yes indeed, a 4 inch bolt circle will fit all Austin-Healey Sprites, as well
as MG Midgets to (at least) 1969.
Chevy Vega wheels also share this bolt circle, and they are wider rims,
allowing the use of wider rubber...
However! Use of tires greater than 175/70s may result in interference in a
Spridget due to poor fender clearance, and the fact that the Vega rims may
have a different offset.
Not to mention the fact that modern rubber allows cornering forces greater
than that originally engineered into the car's design.
Consequently, Spridgets with tire modifications have been notorious for
breaking rear axle shafts.
A solution: double-bearing rear hubs, and nitrided half-shafts solve the
problem, but are expensive.
Bottom line: be careful not to upset the "balance of power" when modifying any
car, but especially the older British stuff, most of which tended to
overstress family sedan componentry to begin with.
