This seems excessive, but then it depends on you back-axle ratio (assuming
all you guages are working properly).
You can calibrate your speedo, by going down a freeway with a stop watch
and timing how long it takes to travel 1 mile at a steady speed.
I know that on my Midget I get 17.2 mph/1000 rpm, so at 4000 rpm I am doing
69 MPH. I am quite happy to drive at 70MPH all day, the engine never
complains. The only indication during a hot summer day, is that the
oil pressure will start to drop slightly. So this summer I fitted
an oil cooler, and I have cruised at 4500 RPM for several hours
with no problems.
BTW - I have the 3.7 diff from a leter 1500 Midget and 175/70 tyres.
