Kendall, from what you discribe the BGT Special to be like, I would say that
$250-500. If you are in a place that requires SMOG tests you are going to
want to replace that engine with one the year of the car ('67?). '68
started the SMOG pump. A car sitting for 12 years would require a complete
going through and a renewing of all the seals and brake hydrolics. One
can easily put more than the car is worth just getting it back on the road.

$2000 seems Ok for a daily driver that could use paint but is otherwise
sound. My '68BGT cost me $1500. It had a fresh valve job and new interior.
It has a minor ding in the front offside wing and needs new paint. I drove
it for 3 years, commuting about 40 Mi each way without any problems until
this summer when my flywheel tried to escape.

When I was looking I saw a number of BGTs in the $1500 - 2500 catagory. The
ones at the upper end were fairly nice looking drivers. There are so many
MGBs around that they are not in danger of run away appriciation.

I would suggtest that unless you have your heart set on that particular car &
if the seller dosn't see how over priced it is, walk away from it and purchase
the best condition BGT that you can find for a reasonable price.
