My `68 Etype coupe has been draining the battery constantly
and last nignt it just died. Now I've looked but haven't found
anything wrong and the battery is quite new, say about 6 months old.
What I'd like to do is determine what is causing the problem
and being a EE. I figure that I could hook up an ammeter to the
battery and start removing fuses one after another until I
get the circuit that shorting or leaking. For this system to
work, there should be no article that drains the same amount as the
short as I wouldn't be able to tell the short from the normal
operation. It may be that several things are constantly draining the
battery as a normal part of their operation and if a short happen
that is of the same magnitude, nothing out of place will be noticed
but the battery will run down since the system is not designed to handle
this extra load. So does anyone have suggestion on what loads down the
battery constantly other than a clock? is my way of looking at this
not correct? if all the fuses are removed, should the current drain
be almost negligable i.e. in microamps? I will repost if I get helpful
replies.
