Sounds like an early Ace. That's the correct displacement and it's
easily recognized by the boxy shape you mentioned as well as by the
raised AC logos on top of the valve cover. This engine was of AC design
and in this version developed about 85hp. The final version of this
particular engine had 2.4 L of displacement and developed about 110hp.
Other engines used in the Ace were the Bristol 2 L (of prewar BMW
design) and the 2.6 L Mark II Ford Zephyr engine. I was unable to find
any weight figures but the Ace must have been under 2000 pounds. My
completely unbiased opinion is that the Ace was one of the best looking
sports cars of the period.
