In the latest M**t* Magazine (quarterly publication, glossy) there is an
article about the staff ripping out the fuel injection system in their M**t*
and replacing it with a pair of SU carbs from a 1971 MGB. With the fuel
injection gone, so is the rev limit at 7200. The car now makes a wonderous
burble at idle and a pleasingly sweet snarl at high rpms. By shifting at
8000, 0-60 times drop about 2 seconds. Unfortunately, its not legal for smog
stuff unless they get a better set of needles. They got the 1 1/2 SU's at a
garage sale for $25, and had to make a custom double Y intake manifold out of
forged aluminum that was in the $$$$ range, so it ended up being pretty
enpensive. The article didn't mention anything about vlave float, but I
wonder how the 8000 rpm was decided upon, unless they chose that point
because that's how far the tach goes.
I thought it was pretty humorous.
p.s. If you can't figure out what a m**t* is, refer to some previous
postings by myself, Scott Fisher, or Chris Kantarjiev.
