As far as oil on the back of the dash goes, the oil pressure gauge is NOT
electric. There is no sender like for fuel, temp, etc. Instead, a little
flexible pipe comes out of the block and actually screws right into the back
of the gauge. The actual oil exerting real oil pressure is then used to
deflect the needle via some curved tubes and such (like for an air pressure
gauge).
You could easily be leaking oil out there as it gets to upwards of 70psi.

Tell me about it! I once had to move my Esprit(Smith's guages) while the
guage panel was removed. I thought to myself "Can I do this? sure I can,
I don't need the guages to just start & move the car." After moving the
car I looked down to find my pants leg soaked with oil. It also got my
sneakers & carpet (luckily black).
Yup, It don't take too long for 70 psi of "squirt" to make quite a mess! :-(
