Advice? My advice is to put on a good set of SU's. I run
the DGV on my racecar, because I HAVE too and don't particularly
like it. The mixture is not as tunable as the SU's where
you can buy (or make) a needle to curve the jetting across
the whole band.
The major Achilles heel of the SU is the throrttle shaft,
this will wear an oval in the carb body and will become
a vacuum leak. If you get the carb rebushed, this problem
will go away, If you get new throttle shafts, the problem
will also go away for several years.
SU's are easy to tune and fix. Spares can be bought
at swap meets for $10 (I have a whole box full of $10 SU's)
and they do a damn good job. I had a DCOE on my sprite for
a while, it was OK as long as I was running wide open and
didn't mind getting 12 miles per gallon. It didn't run for
s**t at low RPM's.
If you want better performance, move up to a set of 1 1/2"
SU's.
