1275 1970 Midget....
Car runs like crap with SU's..rebuild SU's many times...car still runs like
crap...decide to put weber on car...car runs great cept now we have an oil
leak...pull engine...replace rear end cover gasket...also replace clutch while
engine is out...put engine back in ....1 man job all the way...start up
car..oil
still leaks....
It looks like the oil is leaking out wherever it can via the crankcase. For
example it's slipping past the joint between the crank and the crankcase, it's
also getting pushed past the threads of the bolt that you remove to drain the
oil. It looks to me like I'm getting some severe positive pressure in my
crankcase that is pushing the oil out.
What would cause this? The only thing I can think of is that I'm getting blowby
at the piston rings that is causing the positive pressure in the crankcase and
therefore the oil leak.
Oil pressure is great at 70 lbs cold, 60 lbs under throttle and 40 lbs at idle
warm....Could the weber be creating such a power jump that it is causing all
this? I'm getting to the point now where I'm going to take it off the road and
do a total rebuild this winter....I would like to drive it this summer but I'm
too environmentaly conscious to blow oil all over the road for 3 months...
Any help would be appreciated...
