Well, in case anyone's wondering about the strange TR-3 based fiberglass
special that was mentioned here on the list, I have some news: the
car has been identified. Some of what the owner told me is clearly
wrong, however the pictures he sent allowed me to identify the car.
Anyway, I had a copy of Thoroughbred and Classic Cars on my desk
here at work to xerox an article for Roger Garnett about the
Peerless he just bought. I so happens that same issue had an article
about a gathering of 50's specials based on the Ford Popular chassis.
They had a picture of the concours winner, a Rochdale GT - guess what,
the TR-based car is wearing a Rochdale GT body. The owner had told me
that there were onlye 7 of these bodies made before a fire destroyed
the mold, however, my research into the Rochdale GT suggests that
some 150 were made. There are some other discrepancies in the story,
but I think I'll spend some time negotiating on the car (both with
the owner and the one who holds veto power over new car projects).
cheers,
John
