Subject: Hillman parts
Hi Josh,
The two best places in the world for Hillman parts are:
Spares Galore
178 Whitehorse Road
Blackburn
Victoria 3130
Australia
and
Grimes (Coulsdon) Pty Ltd
Hadleigh Garage
Marlpit Lane
Coulsdon, Surrey
United Kingdom
Hillmans were not only exported to Aust they where assembled here
along with Humbers and Sunbeams. Spares Galore (previously called
Hillmanspares) bought a lot of parts from Rootes when they closed
down. However, Minx convertibles are not that common, so body parts
will be hard to get. Mechanical bits should be readily available.
I have a 1952 MkVII Minx converible (to be restored) and a 1968
Hillman Imp convertible (one of only seven built by the main dealer
in Melbourne) as well as other 50's and 60's Rootes cars(inc 1953
Sunbeam Alpine) mid 30's Humbers and Hillmans and a 1910 Humber.
There was a Series III? minx convertible in Denver Co when I was there
in Feb this year, being auctioned from a bankrupt parts supplier/
wrecking yard who specialized in Jaguars and MGs. It was suitable only
for spares- if it did not get crushed it may be worthwhile following
up - sorry I don't remember the name of the company.
Hope this information has been of some help. Are there any cheap
Sunbeam Tiger parts(rear axle complete, front axle with RHD steering
rack) near you?
Cheers, Roger Foote
