I believe you are correct. My personal rule (or hangup, as I seem unable
to change it) is that if an unused or unwanted part is serviceable, I have
no business throwing it away, as someone else may need it in the future.
My wife, on the other hand, feels inclined to discard anything that is not
currently plugged in and running. This means that her parts of the house
are neat and tidy, whereas mine look like the aftermath of a garage sale
that mysteriously exploded.
However, I am confident that if the need ever arises for a dashboard
filler plate to cover the hole for a never-installed clock in a 1969
Pontiac Custom S Station Wagon, I can fulfill that need.
