Mike Jeffreys was curious as to wether or not my Spitfire was 'standard
tune'. When I bought the car about 14 months ago the engine was in the
process of being rebuilt. I guess that helped with the relativly
low figures. (2% CO and 230 ppm hydrocarbons).

Well the engine is standard tune right down to the last detail this
in Britain means twin SUs and no real emmisions control ;->

The compression figures are all 165 psi +- 5 for all four cylinders.

Which leads me to my next point......

Now I have a garage (Yeaahh) I intend to make my precious beutifull,
the body is in pretty good shape, several small patches of bubbling
but no serious rust. The near side door is not aligned right but
that shouldnt be a problem.

What I want to do is take the body off and start from the ground up
in short make this a car I want to keep.

I would like some more performance. The ideas I had in mind were :

Uprate the brakes (possibly using GT6 on the front)

Suspension (Spax or Koni with new stock springs)
should I use uprated springs ?

Engine and gearbox - has any one tried Dolomite sprint
engine and OD box ? I heard that Sprint engines are
not reliable - is this true ? Should I just tune up
the spitfire engine seeing as I have a pretty good one
        to start with.

Interior well I like it as it is - but I may put in
a veneered dash (my father runs a furniture business
so that could be usefull :-)

Anyway I have to do some work cos if I lose my job I lose net access !

        Toodle pip,

                Ben Hodson (hodsonb@prl.philips.co.uk)
