I had almost the exact same problem with an old Fiat Spyder. The front brakes
would seez on and the car would just stop until they unseezed. So I replaced
the front calipers. When I can to bleed (the old fashioned way with a friend
at the pedal and me at the wheels) I got just a small trikle of fluid everytime.
I went through about a quart of fluid trying to bleed them. I thought it had to
be the master cylinder (which must have somehow mysteriously failed over the
period of two days whilst I changed the calipers) so I removed it, cleaned it
all up and put it bach to gether with the old seals (as none were available
locally for a few days) just to see it would give me pressure as everything
looked in very good shape, even the seals. But still no pressure, just alittle
bit of fluid at each 5 pegal strokes.
So I drove the car (no brakes!! yes I know what an idiot) to a garage and told
them the problem. Later that day the guy said I needed a new master cylinder.
As I was Sunday they could not get one until Monday. So I drove the car home
(BTW the guy at the Chevron garage who tried to bleed the brakes did not even
charge me!!) and got a new master cylinder. BINGO it bled as normal and in 30
mins I had a brake system again.
Perhapps its time to bite the bullet and get a new master cylinder.
Hope this helps.
Cheers DW
