I got my MGC running last Friday. It was only working on 4 cylinders,
so I took it to a local shop here where the head mechanic is very
good. He told me that the distributor was seized and that the
carbs needed to be rebuilt. He tuned it so that all 6 were working,
so I am now able to drive it, but he thought that it wouldn't last long.
The question is: How much should it cost me to get the distributor
and the two carbs rebuilt? He quoted about $200. I have rebuilt
the carbs before, but Tucker (the mechanic) chastized me for
using after-market parts on them. He seemed to think that these
were the source of the tuning problems. I have never rebuilt a
distributor, so I don't know what parts to order or how to
assemble them.
