Greg:
I've been looking into replacement cats for the TR8 for a little while now.
The general opinion of nearly everyone I've talked to has been that
a header won't let the cat be placed close enough to the engine to get
hot enough to work properly. That may not be true on the Spit but I
suspect it probably is.
As for aftermarket cats, Walker makes one called Super Cat or something
like that (I called them). It's a dandy free flow design. BUT, it's
REALLY pretty big and I knew two of those wouldn't fit in the TR8.
Maybe there's oodles more room in the 1500's exhaust line. If so,
I'll bet a new cat would help performance a lot.
BTW, are you sure the 1500's cat is a honeycomb design? I got the impression
that on the TR8 it was that nasty, restrictive pellet design... Mine
rattles and rolls a lot, especially when I first start the car. I hate
that sound :-(
Let us all know what you find out.

PS: I've decided to take off my cats and pour the contents out and put
em back empty. I figure in a couple of years there will be LOTS of
aftermarket free flow cats out there and then I'll worry about it.
