Bod Spidell had a very good pint about oil cooler and having to compensate
for oil levels.
I've got a B GT with oil cooler.
After the car has sat for over ca 5 days the oil pressure takes over 10 seconds
to reach max (it tkes less if the car has sat for 1 day and only a second if it
has just been run) after it has started. I think this is because the oil drain
s out of the cooler to the sump so the oil pump must fill the cooler before the
system reaches full pressure. So when should I measure oil level??
Also is there some valve to prevent oil flowing back to the sump? If so where?
I think fitting an oil thermostate (something I intend to do soon anyway) will
act as an antiflow-back valve??? Another point in favour of oil thermostates.
Is $40 expansive for an oil thermostate? Are there any yanky cars which use
them?
Cheers DW
