Scott I think you need a vacation!!
When I rebuilt my TR-6 engine I never dreamed about it but I was always
concerned that I would loose parts because I had the entire engine
scattered on the garage floor. I often thought to myself if I forget
a small part after I get the engine together I'd have to take apart
again. Luckly that didn't happen. While rebuilding the engine I
remember taking the driver side seat out of my Scirocco to make room
for the engine block so I could take it to the machine shop for
cleaning. When I stopped for gas the gas attendant ask me about this
engine block sitting next to me in the small VW. I told him I always
carry a spare engine around with me. He shrugged his shoulders and
said 'smart'. While on the subject of rebuilds I could not find net
(oops...thats new) head studs. If you have trouble go to a machine
shop that rebuilds truck engines and substitute the studs for
grade 8 bolts. If your interested I'll have to dig through my notes
to find the length of grade 8 bolt I used. I've put a lot of miles
on that rebuild so I think the bolts seem to work well as a repalcement
to the studs.
